Land Clearing and Construction Debris

Land Clearing Debris

Land clearing debris from residents and businesses may be brought to the Bedford County Waste Management Facility (1060 Recycle Rd., Bedford) during normal operating hours.

This debris is defined as wood waste such as brush, stumps, or tree limbs that can’t be bagged. Railroad ties are not accepted.

Regulations:

  • Stumps measuring greater than 24 inches in diameter are charged $57 per ton for residents and businesses.
  • Residents disposing of stumps measuring more than 24 inches in diameter are not allowed to waive their first 1,000 pounds.

Construction Debris

All construction or demolition waste must be disposed of at our Waste Management Facility (1060 Recycle Rd., Bedford).

Construction or demolition waste is defined by Virginia’s Solid Waste Management Regulations as solid waste produced or generated during construction, remodeling or repair of pavements, houses, commercial buildings, and other structures. Construction waste includes—but is not limited to—lumber, wire, sheetrock, shingles, glass panes, pipes, and some metal and plastics.

Small amounts of carpet from a household are accepted at full-service convenience centers. Call the office for more details, 540-586-7656.

Charges for disposal are as described in the tipping fees.

Regulations:

  • Under the Virginia Solid Waste Management Regulations only rock, brick, block, dirt, broken concrete and road pavement may be buried, provided that no open dump, hazard or public nuisance is created. (These materials may also be brought to the Bedford County Waste Management Facility. Charges are described in our tipping fees.) No other construction debris can be buried.
  • State law requires that all solid waste be disposed of at a permitted waste management facility, such as ours. Construction waste is not allowed at county convenience centers.
  • Under the Virginia Waste Management Act and the Virginia Solid Waste Management Regulations construction and demolition waste cannot be burned.
