Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney Wes Nance is a constitutional officer who serves the Town of Bedford and Bedford County.

Unlike the county attorney, whose role is usually limited by individual state constitutions to non-felony infractions or misdemeanor cases, the commonwealth's attorney is dedicated to prosecuting felony crimes. The state of Virginia requires every county and every city be served by a commonwealth's attorney.

Nance is the highest law enforcement official in Bedford County. He supervises a staff which includes the Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, Chief Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, and Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys.
