Residential New Construction Permit
Before building a new home in Bedford County, you must obtain a permit from Bedford County.
Generally, once you submit your complete permit application, we will review the application within five to 10 business days. The application for this permit can be found on our Citizen's Self-Service Portal.

Electrical Permit
Electrical permits are needed for service changes, new services on existing buildings, temporary services, and other scenarios.
These permits are typically submitted in person at our office (122 E. Main Street, Suite G-03, Bedford) and can be issued same day. You can also apply for this permit online through our Citizen's Self-Service Portal or by mail.

Short-Term Rental Permit
Short-term rental permits are needed for the rental of a room or space intended for occupancy for dwelling, sleeping, or lodging purposes for a period of fewer than 30 days.
Generally, once you submit your complete permit application, we will review the application within one to 10 business days. The application for this permit can be found on our Citizen's Self-Service portal.
