The purpose of these guidelines is to define the terms by which Bedford County, Virginia will provide GIS data and GIS services to the general public.

The Bedford County Geographic Information System (GIS) staff, a division within the Department of Information Technology, is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and management of geospatial data for the County as well as the Town of Bedford.  While the main purpose of this data is to support County and Town operations, the GIS Division does maintain several applications which enable the public to access much of this geospatial data.

For all GIS Data and Service requests, Bedford County operates within the guidelines of the Virginia FOIA Council and Virginia Information Technologies Agency Guide to Handling FOIA Requests for GIS Data.  (http://foiacouncil.dls.virginia.gov/ref/GIS_Records.pdf)

GIS Applications / Data Portal / Web Services

Property and property-related information is available for search and viewing on the County’s Public Parcel Viewer.

Bedford County has GIS datasets for the County and the Town of Bedford available for download within the Bedford County Open Data Portal.  This data can be downloaded in spatial and/or tabular format.

ArcGIS Services is a location for the REST endpoint of Bedford County’s public-facing GIS services.  These web addresses are accessible on desktop, laptop, and mobile devices.
