911 is for immediate public safety assistance. This includes any danger to life or property, serious medical emergencies such as chest pains or seizures, fires in buildings/vehicles/brush, crimes in progress, etc.

Your dispatcher will ask your address, phone number, name and what happened that led to your emergency. After you give that information, they will start asking you more detailed questions to gather information that will help first responders. These questions will not delay help arriving to you. While we get this information, someone else on our team is dispatching first responders. As first responders, get closer to your location, dispatchers will give you pre-arrival instructions.

Your location is the most important piece of information for dispatchers so they can make sure first responders arrive quickly. They want to make sure that they have your location accurate so they will ask you to repeat it again as a confirmation.

Don't hang up!

 Stay on the line and tell the dispatcher you dialed 911 by mistake and that you are not having an emergency. If a caller hangs up, the caller must be contacted in order to ensure there is not an emergency.
